It has been over a year since an Enbridge pipeline burst and spilled over 843,000 gallons of oil into the Talmadge Creek and the Kalamazoo River. As reported in this recent article, despite clean-up efforts, the river remains polluted. There are serious concerns regarding the impact on the unique and once flourishing wildlife in this region. Knowing what we now know about the numerous dangers of chemical dispersants, an effective and natural alternative is needed.
Pilot tests have shown MUNOX® to be effective in promoting the natural degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil, ground water, and marshes. MUNOX® can therefore represent a valuable addition to reclamation initiatives, providing a multifaceted approach that benefits from the natural bioremediation activity of select microbes. Since an oil spill is by no means an isolated event (meaning that oil is not easily contained and thus will inevitably spread), various tools are required in order to effectively restore the entire affected region to its natural state. MUNOX® is one of those tools.
